BROKERS & CORPORATE WELLNESS

BROKERS & CORPORATE WELLNESS

Corporate wellness brokers are a modern variant of traditional health and life insurance sales agents. Although their basic goal, selling insurance policies, is the same, wellness brokers have an expanded role working with company leaders to encourage healthier lifestyles among employees, ultimately aiming to keep health care and insurance costs down.

Insurance brokers are in a unique position to help employers choose and implement workplace wellness programs and communicate the program to employees.  Fundamentally, their clients, including plan sponsors and administrators are asking for proactive ways to reduce insurance premiums and improve overall workplace health and productivity.  Companies are looking for support from their broker to develop workplace wellness strategies, and create an internal wellness program.

Partnerships

This relatively new area of wellness is one that brokers, and often clients alike, are navigating as they go along. It requires knowledge, expertise and time to really dig into the culture of a company and its employees and gather the insights to build a successful wellness program.

For this reason it makes sense that brokers are now starting to work with dedicated wellness companies that support them and their client’s goals. Together, positive change and outcomes can be reached; clients' workforce will be healthier which, in the long run, impacts a company's bottom line and creates a win-win business partnership for client and broker.

Below are some of the pros and associated challenges to brokers who are yet to build these partnerships with wellness companies. This is further supported by a clever info graphic by Dr. Aldana the CEO of Wellsteps, highlighting how brokers are currently choosing to engage with their clients based on a study he compiled.

Companies and corporate wellness

The question a CEO, Wellness Administrator or HR Professional should ask themselves before engaging further in wellness is, what are we looking for in our wellness program? What are, not only the business KPI’s but, what makes my employees tick? After all, they are the ones you are trying to engage. Once you know what you are looking for then you can challenge your insurance broker to provide you with wellness companies to support you.

Here are a few things you should be considering:

  • A wellness program that stays with your company regardless of which insurance company or broker you work with
  • A wellness program that is effective at improving employee health and reducing employee-related expenses
  • A wellness program that is backed by a performance guarantee
  • A broker who will help you solve your problems, not maintain the status quo or push you into solutions that only generate more broker income
  • A broker who understands your challenges and is truly interested in helping you out, even if there is some service creep
  • A win, win, win relationship that will last for at least 10 years
  • A broker that has handpicked the correct wellness company to support you https://corporatewellnessme.com/

Remember, it’s all about a lifestyle!
